What the public record shows
According to a January 29, 2026 announcement from the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA), the agency recovered more than $70 million for Marylanders in calendar year 2025. The recoveries came through several operating units, including the Rapid Response Program, the Property and Casualty Complaints Unit, the Life and Health Complaints Unit, the Appeals & Grievance Unit, the Insurance Fraud and Producer Enforcement Division, and the Market Regulation and Professional Licensing Division.
The Rapid Response Program is designed to help consumers resolve some property and casualty issues, including auto and homeowners claims, without filing a formal written complaint. The MIA says participation is voluntary and does not affect a consumer's right to file a formal complaint. In 2025, the program closed 2,207 complaints and recovered nearly $6 million.
The Property and Casualty Complaints Unit investigates formal property and casualty insurance complaints. The MIA reported that the unit closed 8,480 complaints in 2025 and recovered nearly $11.4 million.
These totals describe agency-wide results across many files. They are not a promise that any particular Maryland complaint will produce a recovery, and they do not describe US Insurance Guide customers.
Maryland residents who want to contact the regulator can use the MIA website at insurance.maryland.gov or call 1-800-492-6116. The Administration's online complaint portal is the public starting point for filing an insurance complaint.
Why this matters
- Maryland has a state insurance regulator that investigates consumer complaints and publishes recovery totals.
- Some property and casualty issues can be handled through the Rapid Response Program without a formal written complaint.
- Agency-wide recovery figures cover many files and do not predict an individual outcome.
